The Seed to Seal™ Process

To create even one bottle of Young Living® Essential Oil requires strict attention to detail — from the seeds sown to the plants harvested. This is the only way to ensure that the oils you obtain are the purest, most potent essential oils available. This precise, detailed method is known as the "Seed to Seal" process.

Seed Selection

Essential oil quality and it's potency starts with the plant's species. In order to get the exact plant species needed, plant species must be authenticated. Young Living experts take great pains to properly authenticate every plant species and seed they use. Species certification involves scientific research, field study, university partnerships, and on-site planting certification.

Cultivation

It's not easy to maintain the creation of pure, potent essential oils year after year, and even improve upon it. Yet through careful cultivation of the four Young Living farms in the U.S., Young Living Essential Oils has mastered the creation of the purest, most potent essential oils.

These same cultivation processes are taken to Young Living’s co-op farms in other parts of the world to certify that these farms’ growing processes meet the same strict quality standards.

Distillation

In contrast to most of the industry's high-temperature, high-pressure distillation practices, Young Living uses a proprietary low-temperature, low-pressure steam distillation process. This process ensures that the beneficial plant compounds in every batch of essential oil remain uncompromised during extraction.

Testing

A truly quality essential oil contains certain bioactive natural compounds in the right proportions. At Young Living, each oil must pass stringent testing to ensure the optimal bioactive natural compounds are present. Young Living uses its own internal labs, in addition to third-party audits, to verify that international purity and potency standards are met and surpassed.

Sealing the Oil

Young Living completes the Seed to Seal process by carefully sealing each bottle of essential oil before shipping them to members worldwide.
