Dog Health Essential Oil Tips-Part 1
What can you do to maintain your dog's health naturally? Every dog owner wants a healthy dog. That's not always so easy in today's busy, high-pressure world. Here are some suggestions…
Obviously, feed him/her a healthy diet and make sure they get adequate exercise and plenty of positive attention. And be mindful of the ingredients in the substances you put on your dog. So many dog shampoos and ointments are loaded with toxins and chemicals that can overtax your pet's immune system.
If you're serious about maintaining your dog's health naturally, you're probably already using Animal Scents Shampoo with pure essential oils and Animal Scents Essential Oil Pet Ointment. But are there other natural substances you can use to keep your pup healthy and happy?
Yes! Many essential oils are just as beneficial to your pooch as they are for you, and can really be helpful in many sticky situations.
Where is the best place to apply the oils?
Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils, suggests applying essential oils to the bottom of the paws and ankle area, around the rims of the ears and inside the lips for dogs and horses. For horses, the oils can also be applied on the frogs of their feet.
Here are a few essential oils pet health tips that other canine owners have tried:
Fleas and Worms:
“I use orange essential oil on the collars of my dog and cat — keeps away fleas – and it smells great too!”
- Aleen O
"We mixed peppermint essential oil with our rug shampoo to destroy a flea infestation. First, we tried the store brand flea bomb, but it did not work. So we shampooed the rug using 15-20 drops in a gallon of shampoo mix, two weeks in a row. It worked great, and now we no longer have fleas!
Thanks to peppermint oil, we can all stop itching (including our cat)!"
- Ron D
I use lemongrass or peppermint oil on my dog and it keeps the fleas off her.
- Jo A.
I use ParaFree with my dogs for worms. Capsules are the easiest. I've got cats, too, so I have to use much smaller doses and since there are really rotten about taking pills I've just put a couple drops on their spine a couple times a day to help them out.
- Lynn B
Immunity
“Before I take my dog to the vet, I rub a few drops of Thieves® essential oil blend on my hands and then rub the bottom of her paws to protect her from other dogs at the vet's office that may be sick.”
- Mary H.
Injury
I use Geranium Oil for hemotomas on my dog. I have seen near miracles in using this oil on blisters, blood blisters (big ones) and hematomas. It works most efficiently if you can apply it as soon as the injury occurs.
- Brenda S
