Damaged Hair Quick Fixes

1051057_girl_1Concerned about your hair looking great this holiday season? Hair not cooperating?

Oh, the damage indoor heating, hot hair dryers and cold, dry weather can inflict upon your hair!

Just when you need your hair looking it's best for all the parties and gatherings, it sticks out with extra frizz or hangs there dull and limp. Or gets so brittle it breaks off every time you comb it, or even stroke it.

Too bad we don't all have top stylists to whip our hair into shape. If you saw the TV special on Christmas with the Obamas, you were probably as impressed as I was with Michelle Obama's beautiful upswept style. Sheer elegance not seen since the days of classic Hollywood movie stars. From the screen, each strand of hair looked like silk!

Is there a way to get your hair looking like that in time for the holidays or at least the rest of the winter? More on Damaged Hair Quick Fixes

Cinnamon Oil Kills MRSA and E. coli

cinnamon essential oil with barkA recent study of cinnamon oil and other essential oils shows that they not only have powerful antimicrobial properties, but they kill MRSA and E. coli and other antibiotic-resistant, hospital-acquired infections.

This is great news, since you've probably heard that antibacterial soaps and sanitizers actually contribute to the growing problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria because the bacteria become resisitant to these soaps and sanitzers so quickly. But they can't get resistant to cinnamon oil and other high-quality essential oils.

Some researchers now recommend sanitizers made with cinnamon oil, which has been shown in many studies to have powerful antimicrobial properties.

Is Your Helichrysum Real or Fake?

helichrysum flowersAre You Buying Counterfeit Helichrysum Oil?
Helichrysum is known for its restorative properties. It provides excellent support to the skin, liver, nervous systems and numerous other applications.* It is also extremely expensive to produce.

As with anything valuable and scarce, the opportunity to produce counterfeits and pass them off as the real thing (or at least to stretch supply) is a temptation too great to resist.

A few months ago, David Stewart, PhD, wrote an article called, "How Do You Know Your Helichrysum Is Good?" that has become quite popular. It's about what happens to helichrysum in today's marketplace. I'm going to do a synopsis of the article here.More on Is Your Helichrysum Real or Fake?

Air Fresheners are Toxic!

air wickChemical air fresheners in all commercial forms are toxic and dangerous to your health! Whatever form they take – candles, aerosol sprays, potpourri, gels, wicks, mechanical or heat release products[1] – they release a plethora of harsh chemicals that can aggravate asthma, lower immunity and affect reproductive development.

aerosolsIn recent studies of commercial air fresheners, virtually NONE were shown to be safe. All products tested had one or more of the issues listed below:

  • Gave off chemicals regulated as toxic or hazardous under federal laws, including carcinogens with no safe exposure level
  • Contain phthalates – hormone-disrupting chemicals
  • Contain chemicals like acetone, the active ingredient in paint thinner and nail-polish remover; chloromethane, a neurotoxicant and respiratory toxicant; and acetaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane, both carcinogens.

Can Dried Superfood Powders Be Your Key To Better Nutrition?

fresh vegetablesIf you're a health conscious person, you know there's no question that the more quality nutrients you get, the better you'll feel and function. But if you live a fast-paced, over-worked lifestyle like most of us, it takes real effort to meet your daily nutritional requirements.

Our bodies require 13 different vitamins and 17 different minerals on a daily basis to function effectively. The body uses vitamins for the production of red blood cells. It uses minerals to help regulate body functions, release energy, and assist growth.

To get the 13 vitamins and 17 minerals, plus the antioxidants and trace minerals we need daily, we need to consume five to seven servings of fruits and vegetables per day. But it's hard to even get three real meals into a busy day, let alone that many servings of fruits and vegetables.

Stop Migraine With Essential Oils?

man with headacheDid you know that the migraine medication you are using can cause your migraines to come back more often?

Recent studies on migraine headaches by neurologist, Dr. Giles Elrington, show that using prescription painkillers, even as little as three times a week, can cause migraines to recur.

At a meeting of the Royal Society of Medicine, Dr. Elrington stated, "These drugs can often cause head pain, including migraine, to recur – a phenomenon called 'rebound' headaches."

Top migraine and headache experts have been warning that overusing pain-relief medication often leads to chronic headaches. This is because the body craves more and more of the medication over time. The higher the dose, the faster a headache is triggered when the dose wears off, causing a vicious cycle.

But nobody likes to suffer pain without relief. Is there anything that can be done for people who suffer recurring, pounding headaches?More on Stop Migraine With Essential Oils?

Essential Oil Misinformation: Tsuga – Just Because It's Hemlock Doesn't Mean It's Poison

Tsuga branchThe amount of misinformation about essential oils online and offline still amazes me. People who claim to be in the know blatantly ignore research, facts and common sense to cling to old wife's tales.

I was shocked today, when I ran across a web page about Tsuga essential oil and it stated that the needles of the hemlock tree were poisonous. How could anyone even slightly educated in essential oils confuse the coniferous TREE with the poisonous HERB?
