lemongrass oil

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) has a light, fresh, citrus aroma with earthy undertones. It comes from the Poaceae or Gramineae family of grasses.

Refreshing, rejuvenating, stimulating, and balancing, it inspires and improves mental clarity. Lemongrass also supports the circulatory system* and has a score of 17,765 on the antioxidant ORAC scale.

Due to it’s high citral content, its fresh, clean scent is popular in household cleaning products such as detergents, room fresheners and insecticides as well as deodorants, soaps, cosmetics, shampoos and skin lotions.

Researchers at Ben Gurion University of the Negev discovered last year that the citral in lemon grass kills cancer cells in vitro, while leaving healthy cells unharmed. For more info read: Fresh Lemon Grass Causes Cancer Cells to Self-Destruct

Action: Lemongrass supports digestion, tones and helps regenerate connective tissues and ligaments, dilates blood vessels, strengthens vascular walls, promotes lymph flow, and is anti-inflammatory and sedative. It may also help improve circulation, eyesight, combat headaches, infections, respiratory problems, sore throats and fluid retantion and aids in tissue regeneration.*

The Phytotherapy Research Journal recently published research regarding the powerful anti-fungal properties of topically applied lemongrass.

How to use: For dietary, aromatic or topical use. When using as a supplement, put one drop in a capsule or in 4 fl. oz. of soy or rice milk.

Item No. 3581, 15 ml – Lemongrass Essential Oil

Lemongrass Essential Oil — 5 Comments

  1. Lorna,

You would use it around the eyes and a tiny bit on your eyelids. Sandalwood and juniper also support the eyes, along with selenium.

Lemongrass is often used with cataracts and glaucoma. The Essential Oil Desk Reference lists this recipe:

    10 drops lemongrass
    5 drops cypress
    3 drops eucalyptus radiata

Mix oils in 1 oz. V-6 Mixing Oil or vegetable oil (organic) and apply around the eyes, temples, and Vita Flex points on the hands and feet, (the under-sides of your two largest toes, index and middle fingers). This will also help with puffiness.

  2. Thank you.

What I’m looking to do—if possible—is get rid of my glasses without Lasik surgery. Will this recipe help with that?

  3. Lorna,

It could help. Nobody can guarantee anything since there can be many causes for poor eyesight and everyone is different. Some people have a lot of trouble with lasik after they have it done, as well.

Many people swear by NingXia Red.

Here are a few experiences I found on http://www.Oil-Testimonials.com:

After drinking Ningxia Red consistently for six months, I achieved a 10% improvement in my eyesight (according to testing). This is major in that first of all I can see better and secondly I am able to reduce the strength of my glasses and thus save money with not having to get stronger glasses.

I tried 1 ounce of Ningxa Red a day for four days. After that time I did not need to wear my reading glasses!! Yipee! I had been wearing glasses for about 2 years. I started with +1 then went to +2, then after the Ningxia Red +0.

I still need to be in bright light to read, but I have only been taking the Ningxia Red for 3 months.

I renewed my drivers license in August 2006. The service person questioned me if I was still wearing eyeware. I stated I didn’t have any of them with me and could I take the test anyway….and I passed! The eyeware restriction was removed from my license.

I have been using Ninxia Red juice for a year now. A year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with cataracts. I was told to come back a year later in view of determining when surgery and lens replacement would be necessary.

A year and a half went by before I finally got back to be tested again. My eyesight was improved. With my glasses I had perfect vision. The doc said she couldn’t really explain it, I still had a little bit of cataracts but I was ‘looking through them’ perfectly. Well! The only different thing I have been doing is drinking the juice, so besides giving me a lot of energy, I guess it is helping my eyes!

My eyesight has improved tremendously over the course of a few years. My glasses were getting to be very, very thick and when my optometrist suggested by-focals, I decided to do something about my eyesight. Here are the three things I did (and still do): drink NingXia Red daily, use

Essential Beauty Serum on my face in place of any other moisturizer or cream, and go down 2 to 3 steps in the strength of my glasses every 6 months or so (just by using my reading glasses most of the time).

I started to wear my old glasses again and after a while, they became too strong, so I changed to the pair I wore before that and kept doing that about 4 times. Now I wear the same correction I wore as a college freshman. When I ran out of old glasses, I started wearing my reading glasses all day, except for driving or if I had to read a white board from a distance.

At first the reading glasses seem too weak for normal wear, but after a couple of months, my eyes started to see pretty well in them, except for driving.

This may not work for everyone since I’m nearsighted and there’s no other problem with my eyes. So you may have to think about it and come up with a plan that suits you and your lifestyle. But it’s easy to drink NingXia Red, use Essential Beauty Serum and use reading glasses. I occasionally do some eye exercises, but not too often because I forget.

So, doing one thing alone might not strengthen your eyes quite enough, but several things might do the trick.
