Cistus Essential Oil
Cistus (Cistus ladanifer ) essential oil is also known as "rock rose." It comes from a native rose that has a soft, honey-like scent. It is believed to be the biblical rose of Sharon.
Cistus is calming and uplifting and is helpful for meditating and counseling. It is anti-infectious, antiviral, antibacterial and a powerful antihemorraging agent. It helps reduce inflammation, is a neurotonic for the sympathetic nervous system and has been studied for it's effects on the regeneration of cells. Just smelling it can calm the nerves and elevate the emotions.
All these qualities make it an excellent choice for bronchitis, respiratory infections, coughs, rhinitis, urinary infections, wounds, and wrinkles. It works nicely with these companion essential oils: bergamot, clary sage, cypress, juniper, lavender, lavandin, patchouly, pine, sandalwood and vetiver.
Due to it's phenol action, cistus oil may strengthen and support the immune system. As a dietary supplement, it also helps maintain healthy lung function.*
Cistus essential oil has an approximate ORAC of 38,648 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.
