Are reactions to harsh medications and ingredients in pet products getting stronger… but you just don't know where to turn for natural alternatives?

Rest assured that there are many wonderful natural products that can maintain and support your pet's health, with only beneficial "side effects." Veterinarians and pet owners are just starting to discover the amazing benefits of essential oils for pets.

Essential oils can cleanse minor wounds, abrasions, and lacerations naturally, they can help control fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes without toxic effects, they can provide respiratory and urinary tract support, soothe joint pain, and calm stress, fear, anxiety… all without toxic chemicals and harsh ingredients.

Trouble can strike instantly and unexpectedly. It's important to have the right essential oils on hand when you need them. That's why veterinarian Dr. Mary Hess of Madison, Wisconsin, recommends that every pet owner carry an essential oil emergency kit for pets.

Based on her experience as a veterinarian, Dr. Hess suggests these ten Young Living essential oil blends to keep pets feeling their best:

Purification®: This blend is useful for external parasites such as fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.

Thieves®: Perfect for attending to minor wounds, abrasions, and lacerations, Thieves is also utilized for addressing dental concerns. This blend is safe for kittens and puppies.

And here's a great way to keep your cat's litter box clean with Thieves® Spray from Dr. Vera Franco Dahm:

“For years, I have used Thieves® Spray to clean and prep my pet's litter box. I dilute it and spray the box before laying down more litter. No odor at all and it cuts down on germs and mold growth, keeping it clean and fresh for my pet and for me.”

Thieves® essential oil is a blend of powerful, therapeutic-grade, antimicrobial essential oils. Lab test show that the Thieves proprietary blend was found to be 99.96 percent effective against airborne bacteria. (Thieves® Spray is an aqueous solution of Thieves essential oil in a handy spray bottle you can carry with you anywhere.)

Melrose™: When used in conjunction with R.C. and Raven, Melrose provides respiratory support. It can also be used on minor wounds, abrasions, and lacerations if Thieves cannot be tolerated.

R.C.™: Ideal for respiratory and urinary tract support, R.C is practical for cats that require bladder fortification, which does not respond to conventional therapy. (It can be paired with Raven for added support.)

Raven™: Also utilized for respiratory and urinary tract support, Raven is more powerful than R.C. and features essentials oils not found in the latter. Combined, the two oils are highly effective.

Di-Gize™: The gastrointestinal system responds well to this blend. Nutmeg and ginger can be added for additional support.

M-Grain™: Provides relief from head discomfort resulting from sinus pressure.

PanAway®: With osteoarthritis common in older pets, PanAway is valuable for relieving discomfort and relaxing the muscles, ligaments, and tendons. This oil blend can be used alone or in addition to other essential oils that aid in general discomfort. Using a moist towel over the area increases the effectiveness of the oils.

Relieve It™: Especially beneficial for relieving discomfort, Relieve It can be alternated with PanAway for a wider spectrum of relief.

Peace & Calming®: If stress, fear, anxiety, or other similar conditions are present, Peace & Calming can be used to calm a pet. If the pet is injured, Peace & Calming can relax the animal enough to administer other treatments. This blend can also been used on cats who are resistant to other forms of treatment for urinary problems or excessive grooming resulting from stress.

Do be aware that oils high in phenols are not appropriate for cats.

Why does Dr. Mary Hess recommend only Young Living Essential Oils?

Because she knows that not all essential oils are equal. Only therapeutic-grade essential oils are truly pure and un-adulterated. If your pet is sensitive and reacts to medications and chemical ingredients, you can be sure that inexpensive and inferior essential will not do! When you purchase 100% Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils, you know you are getting the very best for your pet's health.

Whatever form they take – candles, aerosol sprays, potpourri, gels, wicks, mechanical or heat release products[1] – they release a plethora of harsh chemicals that can aggravate asthma, lower immunity and affect reproductive development.

In recent studies of commercial air fresheners, virtually NONE were shown to be safe. All products tested had one or more of the issues listed below:

Gave off chemicals regulated as toxic or hazardous under federal laws, including carcinogens with no safe exposure level

Contain phthalates – hormone-disrupting chemicals

Contain chemicals like acetone, the active ingredient in paint thinner and nail-polish remover; chloromethane, a neurotoxicant and respiratory toxicant; and acetaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane, both carcinogens.

Cause increased earaches and diarrhea in infants

Cause headaches, breathing difficulties, or other health problems

Can cause depression

Even air fresheners called "organic," "green," or with "essential oils" emitted hazardous chemicals, including carcinogens.

Don't think you're doing your family a favor by using these products. Air fresheners have been linked to sick children and depression

According to Wikipedia:

The NRDC called for more rigorous supervision of the manufacturers and their products, which are widely assumed to be safe:

"The study assessed scented sprays, gels, and plug-in air fresheners. Independent lab testing confirmed the presence of phthalates, or hormone-disrupting chemicals that may pose a particular health risk to babies and young children, in 12 of the 14 products—including those marked 'all natural.' None of the products had these chemicals listed on their labels."

On September 19, 2007, the NRDC, along with the Sierra Club, Alliance for Healthy Homes, and the National Center for Healthy Housing filed a petition with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Consumer Product Safety Commission to report the findings.[2]

Exposure to volatile organic compounds through frequent use of air fresheners and other aerosols in the home was found to correlate with increased earaches and diarrhea in infants, and with increased depression in their mothers in a large study[3] reported by the University of Bristol in the UK in 2003.

In 2008, Anne Steinemann of the University of Washington published a study of top-selling air fresheners and laundry products.[4] She found that all products tested gave off chemicals regulated as toxic or hazardous under federal laws, including carcinogens with no safe exposure level, but none of these chemicals were listed on any of the product labels or Material Safety Data Sheets.

Chemicals included acetone, the active ingredient in paint thinner and nail-polish remover; chloromethane, a neurotoxicant and respiratory toxicant; and acetaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane, both carcinogens. A plug-in air freshener contained more than 20 different volatile organic compounds, with more than one-third classified as toxic or hazardous under federal laws. Even air fresheners called "organic," "green," or with "essential oils" emitted hazardous chemicals, including carcinogens.

In 2009, Stanley M. Caress of the University of West Georgia and Anne C. Steinemann of the University of Washington published results from two national epidemiological studies of health effects from exposure to air fresheners. They found that nearly 20 percent of the general population and 34 percent of asthmatics report headaches, breathing difficulties, or other health problems when exposed to air fresheners or deodorizers.[5]

My Product Alert States:

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) tested 14 different brands of common household air fresheners and found that 12 contained the hormone-disrupting chemicals known as phthalates (pronounced thal-ates), chemicals that can cause hormonal abnormalities, birth defects and reproductive problems.

None of the products tested had these chemicals listed on their labels. "Manufacturers are getting away with marketing products as 'natural' when they're not, and that's because no one is stopping them," said Mae Wu, an attorney in NRDC's health program. "Our research suggests this could be a widespread problem in a booming industry that – so far – has been allowed to do what it wants."

Most air fresheners don't really freshen anything – they just mask the bad odors in a room. But only to dulled noses. Good noses can smell both the rancid odors in a room and the fake fragrances of the 'fresheners' which in combination create quite a rotten smell indeed.

If candles, aerosol sprays, potpourri, gels, wicks, mechanical and heat release products are this toxic, is there anything safe that you CAN use?

Yes, there is.

Diffusing 100% Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils is not only a safe way to freshen and purify the air in your home, it's also health-enhancing. Many air freshener manufacturers label their products as "natural" or containing "essential oils" with some even boldly claiming their essential oils are pure, when they are no more than chemical imitations. Chemically manufactured essential oils are nothing more than toxins. Only 100% Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils are truly pure and beneficial.

Only 100% Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils:

Improve immune health and create a feeling of balance and well-being.

Reduce bacteria, fungus, and mold.

Kill airborn bacteria.

Promote relaxation, relieve tension, clear the mind and improve concentration, alertness and mental clarity.

Work as natural chelators, bonding to metallics and chemicals and ferrying them out of the body.

NingXia Red's primary ingredient is the "Ningxia wolfberry" or also known as "goji" by native Chinese. Ancient medical texts mention the Chinese wolfberry in conjunction with regulation of the "vital energy," "strengthening of the physique," and nourishment that can "lead to longevity."

Even more anciently, it was said to "replenish vital essences" and "strengthen and restore major organs."

What can it do for you?

Recent studies on migrane headaches by neurologist, Dr. Giles Elrington, show that using prescription painkillers, even as little as three times a week, can cause migranes to recur.

At a meeting of the Royal Society of Medicine, Dr. Elrington stated, "These drugs can often cause head pain, including migraine, to recur – a phenomenon called 'rebound' headaches."

Top migraine and headache experts have been warning that overusing pain-relief medication often leads to chronic headaches. This is because the body craves more and more of the medication over time. The higher the dose, the faster a headache is triggered when the dose wears off, causing a vicious cycle.

But nobody likes to suffer pain without relief. Is there anything that can be done for people who suffer recurring, pounding headaches?

Fortunately, there now may be new hope for migraine and headache sufferers that's beneficial and safe to use. I've just heard from several people who are using the Deep Relief Essential Oil Roll-On and getting surprizing results:

I thought Deep Relief was just for muscle tension and soreness. But the muscles in and around our heads can get pretty tense, too.

Maria's husband's migrane went away after using Deep Relief. Was it the copal in it? Copal is recognized for reducing inflammation and muscle spasms.

Yesterday when I picked my husband up from work he was complaining of a terrible migraine. We stopped by his Chiropractor's but they were closed. Bummer. He thought he was going to have to go home and lay down with a cold pack and be done for the day.

So I gave him some M-Grain and was digging around in my purse for the peppermint when I came across my Deep Relief. "Here, try this." He rolled it on his neck, temples and the base of his skull. A few minutes later he said, "Hey, my migraine is starting to go away." Not ten minutes later he said it was completely gone and he didn't have so much as a headache. "Wow, what WAS that stuff?"

Another wonderful product from Young Living! I think it's the copal in Deep Relief that did it, because nothing else has worked so fast before on his migraines.

Maria H

Same thing happened to Kathie:

I too just recently found this product to work on a migraine. My son and I were out and about and I felt it coming on and so we started to drive home and I rubbed the Deep Relief on my temples, above my eyebrows and along the back of my neck and it was about 15-20 minutes later, when we had just gotten home, I realized my migraine was 99% gone. I couldn't believe it.

Pan Away has been amazing, but this deep relief is also amazing. Plus I love the roller ball.

Kathie P

Deep Relief is turning out to be a surprising natural remedy for migrane sufferers. The slim tube in comes in and roll-on applicator make it easy to carry with you wherever you go and apply.

The amount of misinformation about essential oils online and offline still amazes me. People who claim to be in the know blatantly ignore research, facts and common sense to cling to old wife's tales.

I was shocked today, when I ran across a web page about Tsuga essential oil and it stated that the needles of the hemlock tree were poisonous. How could anyone even slightly educated in essential oils confuse the coniferous TREE with the poisonous HERB?

Here's what the web page says:

"The tree is also known as hemlock, and its needles were used in antiquity to make poisons such as the poison drunk by Socrates when he took his own life."

Nothing could be further from the truth!

Tsuga is a coniferous evergreen tree and is completely unrelated to the poisonous hemlock herb. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the herb, except the similar common name. It's needles were NEVER used to make poisons – Tsuga is NOT a poisonous plant.

According to Wikipedia:

"The common name hemlock is derived from a perceived similarity in the smell of the crushed foliage to that of the unrelated herb poison hemlock; see hemlock for other senses of the word. Unlike the herb, the species of Tsuga are not poisonous."

Yet here is someone who calls themselves an educated "healing professional" who claims to know a great deal about essential oils and wants to share "good information with people about natural healing remedies" putting out completely false information that even a little research would have cleared up.

This is just one example of how misinformation is spread about the "dangers of essential oils." Most misinformation is based on hearsay, rumors, old established (erroneous) beliefs, convictions, and let me add, a great deal of self-righteousness.

I experienced this first-hand when I opened my first web site on essential oils back in the late 90s and regularly got hate mail (via email). It came from people (who wouldn't give their name) who obviously felt THEIR knowledge was superior and would shut my site down if they could. They attacked me for discussing recent research and proven facts about certain essential oils because it went against their beliefs. It surprised and baffled me because the research was so clear and unbiased. Yet they not only refused to believe it, they hated me for writing about it.

Most of that furor has died down over the years as the research has become more established. But here again the same problem arises on a web page that appears as the second listing in a Google search for Tsuga essential oil.

There's nothing I can do about that web site, but I can make you aware of the vast amount of misinformation out there about essential oils. Many oils have been terribly misaligned with complete myths attached to them.

Much of this goes on because an error, once printed, gets repeated as gospel forevermore. And it's all too easy to print something on the web.

You'd be better off not believing everything you read or hear about essential oils…and checking your facts for yourself.

If you're like the rest of us, you probably do. But are there any effective cold and flu prevention methods that could keep you well this season?

We all know the obvious. Here are the general principles:

Eat well by including plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Avoid sweets and processed foods.

Stay warm – wear appropriate clothing and shoes to keep warm and keep your head and ears covered outdoors.

Stay fit – exercise to keep your body healthy, in good shape and to burn calories.

Get enough sleep – your body needs to rest and rejuvenate. Insufficient sleep strains the brain and weakens your immunity.

Wash hands often – We all pick up germs and viruses on pencils, doorknobs, computer keyboards, etc… Hand wash them away.

Do you love the scent of Christmas candles, aromatherapy candles and Christmas potpourri, but worry about the artificial fragrances and toxic ingredients that go into them?

There is good reason for concern …

While the sweet scents and mood enhancing ability of aromatherapy candles may be charming and alluring, their by-products are lethal. Burning drastically changes the delicate constituents of essential oils. When burned, they are converted into toxins such as acetone (an ingredient in nail polish remover and paint thinner), benezene, toluene, particulate matter and soot. Not only do the soot and chemicals get all over your home, but they get into your nose and lungs where they can do serious harm.

Paraffin candles are as dangerous to the lungs as second-hand smoke. The more you candles you burn, the more the harmful effect is multiplied. That's because when burned, paraffin releases benzene and toluene – known carcinogens. These toxic substances are inhaled into you and your family's lungs and leave residue on walls, ceilings and fabrics. It's may be hard to believe the soot from paraffin candles contains many of the same toxins found in diesel fuel, but it's true.

Candles from China, South America and other developing countries often contain lead in the wicks. These countries lack the resources to monitor the safety of products. Burning a few leaded wicks for only a few hours will increase lead levels 9 to 11 times over acceptable limits. Just burning 4 metal-wick candles for two hours can result in enough airborne lead concentrations to pose a threat to human health. Some homes where leaded wick candles are burned frequently become so toxic, they cannot ever be sold.

Slow-burning candles often contain harmful additives. Gel candles contain petroleum with butylated hydroxyl toluene, not exactly healthy substances. Plus, they have a tendency to explode when overheaded.

"Candles are fast becoming one of the most common unrecognized causes of poor indoor air quality," says Diane Walsh Astry, Executive Director of the Health House Project, an American Lung Association education project in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Soy candles are less toxic, if you don't mind burning genetically modified plant matter. Frankly, I don't want to support the GMO industry in any way, shape or form, nor do I want any GMO residue floating around my air space.

The bottom line is, burning any kind of aromatherapy candle or scented candle is essentially poisoning yourself and your family.

What can you do? How can you enjoy the fragrances of the season without releasing toxic and sometimes lethal substances into the air?

First, if you must burn a candle, make sure it's beeswax. Beeswax candles are considerably safer than paraffin and metal-wicked. But they are expensive, and not as readily available.

Secondly, try diffusing essential oils instead. Rather than burning essential oils, diffusers work like atomizers, breaking up molecules into a microscopic mist and sending them out into the room. When you diffuse with therapeutic-grade essential oils, you are actually benefiting your body and lungs. Diffusing is a safe, easy and healthy way to infuse your favorite fragrance into your home.

The Ultrasonic Diffuser is a brand-new, state-of-the-art system that can diffuse even the thickest of oils.

If you're looking for the perfect Christmas scent, try the Christmas Spirit™ essential oil blend – a sweet, spicy blend of orange, cinnamon, and spruce essential oils that brings the warmth of Christmas to your home. It's specially formulated to evoke the happiness, joy, and security associated with the holiday season.

There's no need to forego the wonderful scents of Christmas when you diffuse natural fragrances and essential oils instead of Christmas candles.
