Watch Out For Those Lemon Wedges, They May Be Contaminated
We've heard a lot about tainted hamburger meat and contaminated lettuce lately.
But tainted lemon?
The truth is out – lemon wedges can be dangerous to your health.
In a recent article "Living dangerously — the American way," Dr. Billy Goldberg and Mark Leyner ask a simple question. . .
What presents a more imminent danger to the average American citizen today, they ask. . .
Could it be:
- An Al-Qaida sleeper cell?
- A nuclear warhead hurtling toward the U.S.
- A giant asteroid?
- An invasion of transnational flesh-eating zombies from Canada and Mexico emboldened by NAFTA?
Would you believe the answer is that humble lemon wedge in your Diet Coke or cocktail?
Turns out, a slew of unclean, toxic and noxious microbes get passed to 70 percent of lemon wedges, and end up hanging on the side of your glass… or IN your glass.
"According to study conducted by a microbiologist named of Anne LaGrange Loving, 70 percent of the lemon wedges she tested (from 21 different restaurants) were contaminated with bacteria, including high counts of fecal bacteria. Ah, a nice twist of E. coli!"
And here's the statement Dr. Goldberg and Mark Leyner felt was the greatest scientific quote of all time:
“'I don’t need a schmear of feces with my food!' – Anne LaGrange Loving, on the results of her research."
I'm guessing you don't need a schmear of feces with your food, either.
What can you do about it?
Simple. Tell the waitress you'd like them to hold the lemon wedges. Then use a couple of drops of 100% pure lemon essential oil to flavor and purify your water instead. A bottle of lemon essential oil is small and light and easily fits into a purse or pocket.
