220px-Abies_balsamea_branchBalsam Fir (Idaho, Abies balsamea) is a North American conifer native to the northeastern United States, most of eastern and central Canada and parts of the south (Appalachian Mountains to West Virginia).

It produces a wonderful, pine-scented essential oil that has a refreshing and uplifting scent familiar to many people as the fragrance of Christmas trees. Used in massage, it has a soothing effect on muscle and body discomfort associated with exercise.

About Idaho Balsam Fir

Balsam fir is a beautiful conifer tree. Although it grows in many parts of the United States and Canada, Young Living’s balsam fir is harvested and distilled in northern Idaho by Gary Young. It is distilled in the winter, when often times snow is falling.

At the balsam fir winter harvest in northern Idaho, the entire tree is cut and delicately distilled. Gary Young personally selects the trees and oversees the entire harvest and distillation process. During the past few harvest seasons, Gary has also invited Young Living members to participate in this unique event.
